Top Cards from Lorwyn Eclipse

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I'm really excited to play Lorwyn Eclipsed, catching up on updating my decks and already worried about some new ones.

Unfortunately, there aren't any new commanders in this top 10; the non-legendary ones are much better. Still, I hope to see one or two Maralen, Fae Ascendant or Sanar, Innovative First-Year in future reports.

10. Adept Watershaper

Expect to show up in: Geist of Saint Traft, Queen Marchesa, Phelia

The comparison we can make is that it would be a weaker Boromir? Even if this is a continuous effect. If you're looking for a budget version of this effect or just the redundancy of using creatures to protect your board, then this merfolk will be your friend.

9. Twilight Diviner

Expect to show up in: Slimefoot and Squee, Hogaak, Dihada

Personally, I found this card incredible; it probably won't see much play, but it excited me. 3 mana for a 3/3 is pretty well-rounded. It makes a small top-deck selection that can feed the graveyard and has a powerful trigger in reanimate decks. Unfortunately, the copy is exactly the same, so Hogaak players shouldn't get too excited; you'll only be copying your Vengevines and Bloodghasts, but slimefoot players can end up with 2 saprolings on top of 2 copies of the creature that came up with him.

8. Sapling Nursery

Expect to show up in: Titania, Azusa, Loot

I think every Top 10 lists I wrote had something for lands, but never a payoff; finally, Wizards listened to my complaints. In a mono-green deck, this threat can enter as early as turn 3, already creating tokens. The ability to protect your lands and Treefolk is a good bonus, potentially guaranteeing lethal damage even against Wraths or protecting you from a well-placed Armageddon.

7. Glen Elendra Guardian

Expect to show up in: Raffine, Octavia, Satya

Here we see the trend of more creatures with Flash and useful effects, in the same vein as Tishana's Tide Binder. Note that the ability requires 1 counter, it doesn't specify which one; you can repeat the ability if you have ways to add +1/+1 counters, for example (Looking at you Initiative).

6. Kinscaer Sentry

Expect to show up in: Satya, Ajani, Phelia

An efficient way to gain an advantage in more Aggro decks, the trigger avoids common counterspells and puts the creature on the battlefield attack, guaranteeing a pseudo-haste. If you can play it on curve, you'll grow your board very quickly.

5. Formidable Speaker

Expect to show up in: Slimefoot and Squee, Thalia and Gitrog, Minsc

Three mana for a good body that can search for another creature. It's important to note that you need to discard a card, without any restrictions, just as the creature you search for also has no restrictions. How useful will the ability to untap a permanent be? I don't know, I just know it will be very funny to untap the enemy Winter Orb.

4. Tam, Mindful First-Year

Expect to show up in: Niv-Mizzet Reborn,  Atraxa Grand Unifier, Edric

We have Mother of Runes at home. Tam does a good job of protecting your creatures, guaranteeing static protection the turn it enters, as long as the spell shares a color with its target. After the first turn, it works almost as well as a Mother/Giver. If it has any flaw, it's its color combination, which makes it fit into a smaller range of decks; Gx players would certainly be happy to have this option.

3. Moonshadow

Expect to show up in: Raffine, Kroxa, Hogaak

Is this better than Death's Shadow? Generally speaking, I don't know, but what I do know is that it works in Leviathan, unlike its counterpart. In decks that feed the graveyard through other means, it will grow very quickly and can close the game early.

2. Bitterbloom Bearer

Expect to show up in: Ertai, Raffine, Hogaak

The up-to-date version of Bitterblossom. More vulnerable now that it's a creature? Probably, but faster and more efficient. Having Flash makes all the difference between tapping out on turn 2 or having answers in the early game. And only those who have died to Bitterblossom's trigger know how much you sometimes wish you could get rid of it (myself included).

1. Hexing Squelcher

Expect to show up in: Ragavan, Ajani, Deadpool

It manages to be even more broken than Spiderpunk. Squelcher itself cannot be countered, which already makes it a sure Spell, curving very well to protect the Ragavans with "Ward - Pay 2 Life". On top of everything, it's asymmetrical, protecting your spells but allowing you to counter your opponent's. If you're playing red, I see no reason not to include it.
