The Leviathan Commander format has been an important part of our gaming community for many years. In February, I decided to leave the management committee of this format. The reasons were simple: lack of time, a decrease in passion and limited support from the team and community. After informing the rest of the committee, they tried to find a person who would take over my position as chief commander, but unfortunately he was not willing. The community began to retreat, and many players switched to other formats such as DC, Conquest or Modern. In this post, I will talk about my adventure with Leviathan Commander, about the challenges we have encountered and what the future holds.
The beginnings and development of the Leviathan Commander format
My adventure with the Leviathan Commander format began almost from the very beginning of its existence. I played it for many years, and for eight years I was a member of the committee responsible for the organization and development of the format. At first, I focused on organizing local tournaments in the store, which was the center of our community. Over time, the format began to gain popularity and the games took place in various places around the world.
The Leviathan Commander format stood out from other formats with its unique mechanics and climate, which attracted players looking for something other than standard gameplay. Over the years, I have survived four different compositions of the committee, which shows how many changes and challenges have accompanied this format.
Challenges that led to the end of the format
Over time, however, problems arose that began to affect the condition of Leviathan Commander. The biggest of these was a decline in engagement both on the committee and among the players. The lack of time and passion among the team members made it difficult to keep the format at the right level. After my departure from the committee in February, attempts to find a successor to the position of chief commander did not have an effect.
The community began to retreat, and many players moved to other formats such as DC, Conquest or Modern. These formats offered new challenges and more support, which attracted both new and experienced players. The smaller Leviathan Commander community was unable to meet growing expectations.
Switching to other formats and community changes
Changing the preferences of players was a natural process. The Leviathan Commander format, although it had its unique characteristics, was unable to compete with more popular and dynamic formats. Switching to DC, Conquest or Modern allowed many players to find new challenges and enjoy the game.
It is worth emphasizing that each of these formats has its own strengths:
DC – dynamic gameplay and fast pace.
Conquest – strategic approach and variety of cards.
Modern – a wide database of cards and a large community.
These traits attracted players who were looking for something fresh and more engaging.
Reflections after eight years on the committee
For eight years, I was part of a team that looked after the development of Leviathan Commander. It was a unique adventure, full of challenges and satisfaction. We have survived various changes, both in the composition of the committee and in the community. Even though the format didn't survive, I'm grateful for those years of working and playing together.
The organization of tournaments, cooperation with players from different parts of the world and community building are experiences that will stay with me for a long time. Leviathan Commander was more than just a game format – a place to meet, exchange ideas and share a passion.
What’s next for the community and players?
Although the Leviathan Commander format is ending its business, the gaming community is not disappearing. Many of us have moved to other formats that offer new opportunities and challenges. It is a natural process that allows you to develop and discover new aspects of the game.
For those who want to continue their adventure with card games, I recommend exploring formats such as DC, Conquest or Modern. Each of them has its own unique features and active communities that will gladly welcome new players.
Thanks and ending
I would like to thank everyone who has supported the Leviathan Commander format over the years. Without your passion and commitment, this would not be possible. It was a unique journey that left many memories and experiences.
I wish you good luck to all the players and organizers who continue their adventure in other formats. Let the game bring you joy and satisfaction, and the community continues to develop and support.
Leviathan Commander may be over, but our passion for the game continues. What we have built over the years will remain in our memory and will be an inspiration for the next challenges.
